A family vacation at one of the country's best-known indoor water park resorts ended in horror this week, after a Pennsylvania mother allegedly stabbed her husband and their 3-year-old son to death inside their room at the Great Wolf Lodge in the Pocono Mountains — then called police herself, saying she needed "help dying."

Metallica Rose Harrison, 27, of Towanda, Pennsylvania, has been charged with two counts of criminal homicide, Monroe County District Attorney Mike Mancuso announced Tuesday, calling the criminal complaint "disturbing reading" and the scene a "complex double homicide." Pocono Township police were called to Room 2030 at the resort in Scotrun around 3:13 p.m. Monday after Harrison phoned dispatchers saying she was "too weak" to stab her own neck and needed help, according to ABC News and Fox News.

Officers found her husband, Charles Harrison, and the couple's young son dead on the room's mattresses. Charles had multiple stab wounds to the chest; the boy, identified in the complaint only by initials, had a single stab wound to the chest, according to the criminal complaint cited by CBS News Philadelphia. Harrison herself had cuts to her left wrist and "superficial punctures" to her neck and was taken to St. Luke's Hospital's Monroe Campus in Stroudsburg.

A Family's Last Days at the Resort

According to the complaint, the family had checked into the lodge on Sept. 21 and extended their stay on Oct. 5, with checkout scheduled for the very day charges were filed. Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators showed all three entering the room Sunday evening, with Harrison and her husband later visiting the resort's arcade before returning around 11:22 p.m. No further footage of the family was recorded after that.

Investigators say they found a large kitchen knife on the bathroom floor and a smaller knife on the sink, both with teal-green handles — items resort staff told police the lodge does not stock. No defensive wounds were observed on Harrison's body, according to ABC7 New York's report on the complaint.

"It wasn't supposed to end like this. I was supposed to have my happy family."

That's what Harrison allegedly told first responders in the ambulance, according to multiple outlets citing the complaint. She reportedly also said she'd taken blood-thinning medication beforehand and was frustrated the bleeding wasn't severe enough, and asked EMS how deep a vein needed to be cut "for next time." After being read her Miranda rights, she allegedly told police she was "suicidal, not stupid" and declined to answer further questions.

Pocono Township police described the killings as "an isolated domestic tragedy" with "no threat to the community." Great Wolf Lodge said in a statement it was "deeply saddened and heartbroken" and was cooperating fully with investigators, including Monroe County detectives and Pennsylvania State Police forensic units.

DA Mancuso stressed that Harrison is presumed innocent and that prosecutors must prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt, adding that a motive remains unclear and "the investigation continues as we gather further evidence." Harrison is awaiting a preliminary hearing; court records list no attorney for her yet. Autopsies for both victims were scheduled for later this week, and additional charges may still be filed.
