A DeKalb County Superior Court judge sentenced a Philadelphia man to life without the possibility of parole, plus 10 years, on Thursday for gunning down two people through the front door of an extended-stay motel room outside Atlanta, capping a case that included a cross-state manhunt and a fugitive's capture nearly a thousand miles away in Orlando.

William Leftenent, 39, was convicted a day earlier of two counts of malice murder, four counts of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault and firearm charges in the deaths of Lamar Pringle, 32, and Mariana Greene, 35, according to the DeKalb County District Attorney's office. Judge Gregory A. Adams handed down the sentence in DeKalb County Superior Court.

The shooting happened around 4:30 a.m. on May 28, 2024, at a motel in the 3600 block of Flat Shoals Parkway in unincorporated Decatur. Investigators said Greene was found dead in a first-floor room from a gunshot wound to the chest, while Pringle was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital with a wound to the back and died there. Surveillance footage reviewed by detectives showed a man — later identified through motel records and video comparison as Leftenent — leaving the room, returning to grab a hooded sweatshirt, pulling the hood up, and firing three rounds through the closed front door from outside before running off, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.

A manhunt that ended in Florida

Witnesses inside the motel told police the shooter had argued earlier with someone in the room and was known only by the nickname "Philly." Arrest warrants were issued the day after the killings, but Leftenent evaded capture for nearly ten months. U.S. authorities finally tracked him down in Orlando, Florida, and arrested him on March 19, 2025, according to WSB-TV.

The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Jasmine Atakora and Assistant District Attorney Charlie Boyter, with support from an investigator and a victim advocate assigned to work with the families of Pringle and Greene throughout the roughly 16 months between the arrest and trial.

Surveillance video showed the gunman leave the room, come back for a hooded sweatshirt, and fire three shots through the closed door before fleeing on foot.

DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston's office has pursued a string of life sentences in gun homicide cases across the county this year, part of a broader push by local prosecutors to fast-track violent crime cases through DeKalb's courts amid a backlog that built up during the pandemic years.

For the families of Pringle and Greene, Thursday's sentencing marked the formal end of a case that stretched well over two years from the night of the shooting to the final gavel. Leftenent has no possibility of parole on the murder counts and will serve the additional 10-year firearms sentence consecutively. No appeal had been filed as of Thursday evening, though defendants convicted of malice murder in Georgia retain the right to appeal their conviction to the state's appellate courts.
