3 Killed, 4 Wounded as Argument Erupts Into Gunfire at Detroit After-Hours Strip Club
Detroit police say a Sunday morning fight inside an unlicensed after-hours club turned deadly, leaving three men dead and four more wounded on a residential street that had already logged seven 911 calls this year.
Three men are dead and four more people are recovering from gunshot wounds after a dispute inside a Detroit after-hours strip club exploded into gunfire early Sunday, according to police accounts relayed by the Associated Press.
Officers were called to the scene at 7:21 a.m. on a largely residential street and found three men who had already been fatally shot, Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison told reporters. Four more victims — two men and two women, all believed to be in their 20s and 30s — showed up at area hospitals in private vehicles with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries.
"They decided to settle it with gun violence"
Bettison said the shooting followed a heated confrontation among patrons rather than a targeted attack. "A fight occurred, an altercation occurred, and as a result individuals decided to settle it with gun violence," he said, according to UPI's report on the shooting. He declined to characterize the business beyond calling it an "after hours location," adding, "Imagine a strip club ... and I'll leave it at that."

The address was no stranger to police: Bettison said the location had generated seven separate calls for service so far this year, and local station WDIV/ClickOnDetroit reported neighbors said the property had operated as a late-night club for roughly a decade despite sitting on an otherwise quiet block.
No arrests have been announced. Bettison said detectives already have leads but declined to elaborate, and investigators are appealing to the public for tips. Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield issued a statement urging witnesses to come forward, saying the city needs "more people to speak up to bring justice" in the case.
The shooting adds to a string of after-hours-venue violence that has drawn scrutiny to unlicensed nightlife spots operating past legal hours in residential neighborhoods. It was also picked up by international wires, including Al Jazeera's coverage of the Michigan shooting, underscoring how quickly the case spread beyond local headlines.
Detroit police have not released the identities of the three men killed pending family notification. The investigation remains active, and no charges had been filed as of Monday.
