Jalen Brunson spent this summer hoisting an NBA championship trophy. Tonight, he's hoisting cue cards.

The New York Knicks star and reigning Finals MVP makes his hosting debut on "Saturday Night Live's" Season 52 premiere, airing tonight at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock with pop group KATSEYE as the musical guest, according to NBC's official season announcement. Brunson becomes just the fifth NBA player ever to host the show.

Ahead of the broadcast, Brunson leaned all the way into the bit. In a promo posted Wednesday, he tried — and comically failed — to unlock doors around 30 Rockefeller Plaza using the ceremonial "Key to the City" New York handed him during the Knicks' championship parade, playing on the fact that the key is purely symbolic and opens nothing, per footage of the sketch. The clip quickly racked up shares from fans delighted to see the notoriously low-key point guard embrace full comedic chaos.

It caps an improbable few months for Brunson, who averaged 32.6 points a game in the Finals and dropped 45 in the championship-clinching Game 5 road win as he led the Knicks to their first title in 53 years, per NBA.com. Since then he's been everywhere — parades, talk shows, sneaker launches — but hosting "SNL" is a different kind of pressure test, one that's tripped up plenty of athletes before him.

Brunson isn't the only new face at "SNL" this fall: the show has also announced Dakota Johnson (Oct. 3), Shane Gillis (Oct. 10) and Inde Navarrette's Halloween episode as upcoming Season 52 hosts. But tonight belongs to Brunson, who put it simply before stepping into Studio 8H: "I have no idea what I'm walking into, but I know it's going to turn out great."
