Donald, 35, walked away from football in March 2024 without warning after 10 seasons entirely with the Rams/St. Louis franchise. According to the team's own announcement, his comeback followed private workouts with the Rams on August 5 and August 16 after what coaches described as a strict, self-directed training regimen.

Reuniting With a New Running Mate

The move is closely tied to the Rams' blockbuster offseason trade for reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett, acquired from Cleveland. Head coach Sean McVay reportedly consulted Donald about the Garrett trade, a conversation that reignited Donald's interest in playing again.
