Taylor Swift surprised fans Wednesday by revealing that her new single "Patient Zero" — announced just a day earlier — is part of something much bigger: a four-song expanded edition of The Life of a Showgirl called The Encore, arriving Friday, Variety reports.

The Encore adds four new tracks to the 2025 album: "Patient Zero," "Cleveland!," "Pink Clouding" and "Babylon." NBC Los Angeles reports the extra material grew out of additional studio sessions with longtime collaborators Max Martin and Shellback following the response to the original album.

A trip to Sweden sparked more songs

"I took a trip to Sweden to celebrate with Max and Shellback," Swift explained, according to Variety, "and there was a studio there and we did what we do when we feel anything at all: we wrote more songs."

The announcement capped a fast-moving 24 hours for Swift's fanbase: she first teased "Patient Zero" on Tuesday, sending fans into a frenzy trying to decode cryptic hints she'd dropped in the lead-up, before revealing the fuller Encore project less than a day later. ABC News reports the surprise rollout follows Swift's established pattern of expanding albums with bonus material after their initial release, as she has done with previous records.

The Life of a Showgirl was one of the biggest album releases of 2025, and the surprise Encore ensures the era continues well into the fall rather than winding down. Both the new songs and the original album will be available together starting Friday. Swift has not announced any new tour dates tied to the release, though speculation among fans intensified within hours of the announcement.
