My Chemical Romance has its first-ever No. 1 album, two decades after the record that made them a phenomenon. "The Black Parade (20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition)" leaps from No. 139 to the top of the Billboard 200 on the chart dated November 7, powered by a wave of physical sales tied to the reissue's release. The original 2006 version of the rock opera debuted at No. 2 on both the Billboard 200 and the UK Albums Chart, and had never reached No. 1 in any form until now.

Billboard, via the Associated Press, confirmed the album earned roughly 78,000 equivalent album units in the United States in the week ending October 29, according to tracking firm Luminate, with physical copy sales driving the bulk of that figure. The feat makes "The Black Parade" the longest an album has ever taken to reach No. 1 after its original release, and the first anniversary reissue ever to debut at the top of the all-genre chart.

A concept album that keeps finding new fans

"The Black Parade" followed a terminal cancer patient confronting death through the eyes of an alter ego called The Patient, and its theatrical blend of emo, glam rock and arena-sized hooks made it a defining record of mid-2000s alternative music. The band split in 2013 before reuniting in 2019, and has periodically revisited the album's songs and aesthetic on anniversary tours in the years since.

THE LONGEST WAIT FOR A NO. 1 ALBUM IN BILLBOARD 200 HISTORY.

The reissue knocks Olivia Rodrigo's album down to No. 2 this week, while Morgan Wallen's "I'm the Problem" holds at No. 3 and Ella Langley's "Dandelion" stays at No. 4, according to Billboard's chart report. Elsewhere on this week's charts, Anderson .Paak and Cordae's "Heavy Is the Crown" debuted at No. 1 on the Top Rap Albums chart, each artist's first chart-topper in that category.

What's next for the band

My Chemical Romance has not announced new original music alongside the reissue, but the chart milestone is likely to fuel speculation about further anniversary touring. For a band that spent years as a cult favorite before splitting and reuniting, topping the all-genre albums chart for the first time, two decades after the fact, lands as a full-circle moment for both the group and the generation of fans who grew up on the record.
