Hilary Swank, 52, Announces She's Pregnant With Third Child
The two-time Oscar winner revealed the news in a glow-stick dance video with husband Philip Schneider and their 3-year-old twins, joking that her "next project... releases in December."
Hilary Swank has a new project due in December — and for once, it isn't a movie.
The two-time Oscar winner announced Wednesday night that she is expecting her third child with husband Philip Schneider, posting an Instagram video of the couple and their 3-year-old twins, Aya and Ohm, dancing in the dark with glow sticks to Bachman-Turner Overdrive's "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet." Midway through the clip, a glow-stick outline traces a baby bump on the 52-year-old actress.
"This One Releases in December"
Swank, never one to make a straightforward announcement, framed the news like a press release for an upcoming release.
"A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN ASKING WHAT PROJECT I'M DOING NEXT, THIS ONE RELEASES IN DECEMBER."
It's the same playful instinct she used in 2022, when she told Good Morning America she was "going to be a mom — and not just of one, but of two," revealing she and Schneider were expecting twins via eggs she'd frozen roughly a decade earlier. Aya and Ohm arrived in April 2023, when Swank was 48, making her a first-time parent at an age Hollywood rarely puts on a baby announcement.
This time, there's no multiples reveal and no fertility backstory shared yet — just the glow-stick bump and a release-date hint. UPI reported the announcement Wednesday, noting Swank and Schneider married in 2018 after two years together, and that the actress is now expecting her third child at 52.
Advanced Maternal Age, Normal Hollywood Timeline
The pregnancy lands Swank squarely in the medical category doctors call "advanced maternal age" — the clinical term for pregnancies at 35 and older, which carry higher odds of complications like gestational diabetes and preeclampsia and typically come with closer monitoring. ABC News noted that CDC data shows birth rates have been climbing for women in their late 30s and early 40s even as they fall for women in their 20s — a shift Swank, intentionally or not, has become something of a poster face for since her 48-year-old debut as a mother.
Swank has leaned into the later-in-life narrative rather than downplay it. She's spoken about ditching the pressure to "bounce back" after pregnancy in favor of what she calls "bouncing forward into our new bodies and selves." Fans in the comments of Wednesday's video largely followed suit, flooding the post with congratulations rather than questions about timing.
No due date has been confirmed beyond Swank's own "December" hint, and reps for the actress have not detailed whether she's expecting one child or more this time. Swank's next on-camera work, the final season of Showtime's "Yellowjackets," premieres November 20 — meaning the real-life cliffhanger may land just weeks after the fictional one does.
