The NFL's most coveted 12 minutes of stage time is up for grabs again, and the early front-runners have nothing to do with the game itself. According to TMZ, Justin Bieber and Harry Styles are sitting atop the wish list for the Super Bowl LXI halftime show, set for February 14, 2027 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

The catch: the decision isn't the NFL's alone. Jay-Z's Roc Nation has held the league's "live music entertainment strategist" contract since 2019, meaning Jay effectively has final say on who takes the stage. Sources close to the process told TMZ that both Bieber and Styles are "high" on Roc Nation's internal short list — but neither has actually been approached yet, and insiders doubt either would accept even if asked.

A history of saying no

If Bieber does pass again, it wouldn't be the first time. Usher, who headlined the 2024 halftime show, has previously said he tried to bring Bieber out as a surprise guest and the plan fell apart — a wrinkle CBS Sports detailed when Usher explained why the collaboration never came together. Styles, for his part, has never performed at a Super Bowl and has been coy about stadium-scale spectacle in the past.

Money isn't really the sticking point, either way. The NFL famously doesn't pay its halftime headliners — artists take the slot for the exposure, and the streaming and ticket-sales bump that historically follows. That calculus has been enough to lure Rihanna, Usher and Kendrick Lamar in recent years, but reps for both Bieber and Styles have stayed quiet on this round of speculation.

Sources tell TMZ that Justin and Harry are both "unlikely" to take the gig even if they're finally approached.

Bieber and Styles aren't the only names floating around. Andscape's ongoing halftime power rankings also list Jay-Z himself, Taylor Swift, Cardi B, Miley Cyrus and Billie Eilish as contenders, and betting markets currently peg a Jay-Z/Bieber pairing as a joint favorite. Andscape notes Jay-Z already has two shows booked at SoFi Stadium in October, raising its own question of whether he'd want to return to the same building four months later for the Super Bowl.

The NFL typically announces its halftime performer in late September, which means an official answer — one way or the other — could land within the next two weeks. Until then, it's rumor, odds boards and a whole lot of "sources say."
