Rob Reiner's Other Children Testified Before Grand Jury That Indicted Brother Nick for Murder
New details are emerging from the Los Angeles grand jury proceedings that led to Nick Reiner's indictment on two counts of first-degree murder in the killing of his parents, director Rob Reiner and producer Michele Singer Reiner.

Rob Reiner's two surviving children, Jake and Romy Reiner, testified before the Los Angeles grand jury that went on to indict their brother, Nick, on two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the killings of their parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and producer Michele Singer Reiner, according to TMZ and AOL.
Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead at their Brentwood home in the early morning hours of December 14, 2025; Nick, 32, was arrested hours later near USC and has been held without bail at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility ever since. The grand jury indictment, returned in July and unsealed on August 12, adds special-circumstance allegations of multiple murders and "lying in wait" — meaning prosecutors allege Nick watched his parents and attacked them by surprise — along with an allegation that a knife was used in the killings, per Parade's reporting on the case.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman has called the killings "a profound betrayal by someone who was loved and trusted by the very people he is accused of killing." Prosecutors have not yet said whether they'll seek the death penalty; if convicted, Nick faces either capital punishment or life in prison without the possibility of parole. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The case has also spilled into probate court. Nick filed a petition in June seeking roughly $1.5 million from his parents' trust to fund a private legal defense, claiming Jake and Romy had initially agreed to help pay for his representation before backing out. A pre-trial hearing is set for September 15; no trial date has been scheduled.
Rob Reiner spent more than five decades in the industry, from his breakout role as Michael "Meathead" Stivic on All in the Family to directing landmark films including This Is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me, When Harry Met Sally... and A Few Good Men. Tributes poured in from across Hollywood following his and Michele's deaths last December, with colleagues from across his decades-long career remembering the couple as devoted parents and fixtures of the industry. The family has largely avoided public comment beyond court filings as the case moves through the system, and no additional hearings are expected before September.
