ICE Officer Indicted on Felony Charge After Houston Man Run Down by SUV
A grand jury charged the officer with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon over an Oct. 10 encounter that left an immigrant hospitalized with multiple fractures.

A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer was indicted on a felony charge Friday over allegations he struck a man with his vehicle during an enforcement operation in Houston earlier this month, Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare announced.
A grand jury charged ICE Officer Mario Alberto Morales with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, Teare's office said. If convicted, Morales faces between two and 20 years in prison, according to CBS News, which first reported the indictment.
What the surveillance footage showed
The charge stems from an Oct. 10 incident in which Miguel Parra-Hernandez, 48, was struck by an ICE vehicle during an operation in Houston, leaving him hospitalized with multiple fractures and in need of surgery. Teare said earlier this month that surveillance footage "appeared to show" an ICE agent intentionally striking Parra-Hernandez with the vehicle, a characterization reported by Fox 26 Houston as the case developed over the following weeks.
AGGRAVATED ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON — 2 TO 20 YEARS IF CONVICTED.
ICE has disputed that account, calling allegations that the agent intentionally struck Parra-Hernandez "reckless" and "false." The agency said the officer was placed on administrative leave while it conducted its own internal review, describing the leave as standard practice during such investigations. The Houston-based immigrant advocacy group FIEL had separately called for Parra-Hernandez's release while the case was pending.
Friday's indictment marks the first time prosecutors have named the officer involved and formally brought charges in the case, which had drawn attention for weeks as Teare's office weighed whether to pursue aggravated assault or a lesser charge. This is a developing story; attorneys for Morales had not publicly responded to the indictment as of Friday afternoon.
