A gunman is still on the loose after fatally shooting a man during an argument in a parking lot just blocks from the Las Vegas Strip, according to Las Vegas police.

Officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department were called to the 4600 block of Grand Drive, near East Harmon Avenue and Koval Lane, around 7 p.m. Monday after multiple 911 callers reported two men arguing in an apartment-complex parking lot, followed by gunfire. Responding officers found an adult male with gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene, Hoodline reported, citing LVMPD.

Police say the confrontation escalated when the suspect, described only as a man in his 20s, pulled a handgun, fired multiple rounds and then fled on foot before officers arrived. The weapon has not been recovered, and no arrests had been announced as of Tuesday.

"No threat to the public"

LVMPD Homicide Lt. Robert Price told reporters the shooting appeared to be a targeted, one-on-one dispute rather than a random act of violence.

"The shooting is an isolated incident, and there's no threat to the public," Price said.

Still, the location — an urban corridor of hotels, apartments and rental properties wedged between Tropicana Avenue and the Strip's southern hotel corridor — put the killing squarely in one of the city's busiest tourist zones, according to a Metro media release relayed by the Nevada Globe. The victim's identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

Detectives with LVMPD's Homicide Section are asking anyone with information — particularly on the direction the gunman fled — to call (702) 828-3521, or to leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers of Nevada at (702) 385-5555.

The shooting lands amid a rough stretch for Las Vegas crime statistics. Metro's own numbers show homicides across the valley have climbed more than 20% so far this year, with 73 killings recorded compared with 57 over the same period in 2025. Monday's killing was at least the second fatal shooting reported in the Las Vegas area within days, following a separate homicide investigation in the eastern part of the city.

For now, the case remains open, the gunman remains unidentified, and Metro homicide detectives are combing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and apartment buildings in hopes of running him down before he strikes again — or slips away for good.
