New details are emerging about the Saudi national accused of planting a hidden recording device inside an OpenAI conference room. Abdulrahman Alfozan, 35, was arrested October 9 and charged with trying to secretly capture confidential conversations, after OpenAI staff found the device hidden behind a television on September 30, according to reporting from The Boston Globe.

Prosecutors say Alfozan had a one-way flight booked to Saudi Arabia for himself, his wife and a relative days after his arrest. Separately, he has described meeting Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during a 2016 Silicon Valley visit and is listed as a venture partner at a Riyadh venture capital firm, though investigators have not alleged the royal family directed or knew of the device. The FBI says the device was meant to "secretly capture sensitive communications about the company's super intelligence tech."
