NBA Down to 3 Finalists for $13 Billion Las Vegas Expansion Team
A Walmart heiress, a hedge fund titan and the Vegas Golden Knights' owner are among the bidders left standing as the league nears a decision on its newest franchise.
LAS VEGAS — The NBA is reviewing bids from three finalist ownership groups for its planned Las Vegas expansion franchise, with the price for the team and a new arena expected to land between $12 billion and $13 billion, according to ESPN.
The finalists are Nancy Walton Laurie — daughter of Walmart co-founder Bud Walton — and her husband Bill Laurie; Canadian businessman Steve Apostolopoulos paired with Avenue Capital's Marc Lasry; and former Phoenix Suns owner Jerry Colangelo teamed with Vegas Golden Knights owner Bill Foley. Yahoo Sports reported a winning bid could be selected "in the near future," with the league targeting the 2028-29 season for the new team to begin play.
