BRAVES CRASH THE PARTY: Atlanta Rallies Past Phillies, Books NLDS Date With Dodgers

The Atlanta Braves are still standing in October — and the defending-pedigree Los Angeles Dodgers are next. Atlanta eliminated the Philadelphia Phillies with a 6-2 win in a decisive Game 3 of their best-of-three National League Wild Card Series, taking the set 2-1 and punching a ticket to the NL Division Series.

Ozzie Albies got the Braves rolling with a two-run homer, Michael Harris II added a three-run blast, and Matt Olson tacked on a solo shot to account for all six Atlanta runs, according to ESPN's postseason coverage. The power surge was more than enough to bury a Phillies club that had forced the series to a third game just a day earlier.

Dodgers up next

The win sends Atlanta into a rematch of sorts with Los Angeles, which captured the NL West and now opens its October as the No. 1 seed. Per MLB's official postseason schedule, Braves-Dodgers Game 1 is set for Saturday at 4 p.m. ET on FOX, kicking off a full slate of Division Series openers across baseball.

That same Saturday also brings the other three best-of-five openers: the White Sox at the Guardians (1 p.m., TBS), the Yankees at the Rays (6:30 p.m., TBS) and the Padres at the Brewers (8:30 p.m., FS1) — giving fans essentially a full day of win-or-go-home-stakes baseball to kick off the Division Series round.

For Atlanta, surviving the wild card round means a short turnaround before facing a Dodgers lineup that enters the series rested after clinching the division days ago. The Braves will need their rotation to hold up behind the same kind of power display that got them through Philadelphia, and a full recap of Thursday's clincher is available via MLB.com's Game 3 video recap.

Philadelphia, meanwhile, heads into an offseason of questions after another early playoff exit, while Atlanta's bats — Albies, Harris and Olson chief among them Thursday — will need to carry over into a much tougher test against a Dodgers staff built for October.
