Bears Blow Past Defending Champ Seahawks 34-17, Snap Seattle's Historic Streak
D'Andre Swift scored three touchdowns and Chicago's defense shut out Seattle in the fourth quarter as the Bears handed the Super Bowl champions their first loss by more than four points in 30 games.
SEATTLE — The Chicago Bears delivered the most lopsided statement of their season Monday night, pulling away from the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks 34-17 at Lumen Field and snapping one of the NFL's most remarkable streaks in the process.
Caleb Williams opened the game with a touchdown pass on Chicago's first drive, and the Bears led 13-9 at halftime before stretching the margin to 20-9 entering the fourth quarter. From there, Chicago's defense slammed the door, outscoring Seattle 14-0 the rest of the way.
Swift's night, and a defense that delivered
Running back D'Andre Swift punished the Seahawks on the ground and through the air, scoring three total touchdowns, the last of which came after Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold threw a fourth-quarter interception. Defensive tackle James Lynch sealed the win with a second interception off a ball tipped by defensive end Austin Booker.
Darnold finished 17-of-34 for 188 yards and two touchdowns in the loss, according to the Chicago Bears' own game recap, numbers that undersell how thoroughly Chicago's pass rush and secondary controlled the second half.
SEATTLE'S FIRST LOSS BY MORE THAN FOUR POINTS IN 30 GAMES
The result snapped a streak Seattle had carried since before its Super Bowl run: the Seahawks hadn't lost by more than four points in 30 consecutive games. Monday's 17-point margin was by far their worst defeat in that span.
What it means
Chicago improved to 6-2 on the season, its third straight win, and continued building a case as one of the NFC's most complete teams under head coach Ben Johnson. For Seattle, the loss is a jarring reminder that title defenses rarely run smoothly, even for a roster largely intact from last season's championship run. Both teams return to action this weekend with the Bears looking to extend their streak and the Seahawks looking to regroup.
