The United States and Britain have issued a joint warning about the “cyber-malicious” cyber-activity of the Russian state that targets government agencies, businesses and infrastructure.
The United States and Britain claim that hackers, backed by the Russian government, have infected computer routers around the world in a cyber-targeting campaign targeting government agencies, businesses and critical infrastructure.
“The targets of this malicious cyber-activity are mostly governments, private companies, critical infrastructure, and Internet service providers,” said the joint news release issued by the British Cyber Security Center, the FBI and the US Department of Homeland Security.
“This is yet another example of Russia’s contempt for international rules – this time through a cyber-attack and attack campaign that attempts to disrupt governments and destabilize operations,” a spokesman for the British government said.
“The performance of this malicious activity sends a clear message to Russia. We know what you are doing and you will not succeed, “he added.
The goal of cyber-piracy is routers that form a major part of the internet infrastructure in a cyber-targeting campaign that could be used in the future to launch attacks.
