A psychiatrist who healed gay, had sex with his male patients

He was known for a special “cure” that he was applying to homosexuals, and now the Toronto-based psychiatrist is accused of sexual abuse of two male patients.

Dr. Melvyn Iscove, 72-year-old, has long believed that homosexuality is a disorder that can be “overcome” and has been characterized by a committee of Ontario College of Surgeons as a person with “special interest in treating patients with problems associated with homosexuality “.

The same committee also found that the doctor had oral and anal sex and also participated in mutual masturbation with some of his male patients during the sessions. The doctor told his patients that this was part of the treatment and would allow them to stop imagining these actions, according to the report he wrote.

Dr. Iscove participated in these actions during the 1990s and early 2000s. His license was suspended until a criminal hearing was held in which he was expected to be permanently removed. He denies the charges and is expected to appeal the decision, said lawyer Alfred Kwinter.

Two patients, now at the age of 40, reported that they were abused when they were 20-year-old. One said the doctor was asked by the doctor about his sexual fantasies about both of them in order to heal depression and anxiety that he was experiencing and related to “fears of being gay.” The doctor then said to the patient: “You can touch me if you want to,” and he began to pull off his pants. Something like that happened at least 10 times during his sessions.
