Trump Offers Dana White the White House Press Secretary Job, Wants Him to Bring UFC Fighters as 'Assistants'

"Dana, please take the job!" the president wrote on Truth Social Saturday, pitching the UFC CEO for a podium that's had two occupants in three months. White hasn't said yes — but he posted himself standing at the briefing room lectern anyway.

President Trump used a Saturday Truth Social post to offer UFC CEO Dana White the job of White House press secretary, the latest twist in a staffing shuffle that has left the podium without a permanent occupant since mid-October.

"I am pleased to announce that the Great Dana White, a violent Fighter and Warrior," Trump wrote, according to CBS News, adding that White "has been offered the job" and "will be a Press Secretary like none other." Trump capped the post with a direct appeal: "Dana, please take the job!"

The offer came with an unusual rider. Trump asked White to bring along several UFC-world "assistants" — the post reportedly named fighters including Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje, according to Yahoo News — writing that "we need these people to defend us against the Lunatic Left."

White's Answer: A Photo, Not a Word

White hasn't publicly accepted or declined. Instead, he posted a photo of himself standing at the White House briefing room lectern to his Instagram story, captioned simply "On to the next chapter," alongside a screenshot of Trump's post. TMZ reported, citing people with direct knowledge, that White plans to meet with Trump on Monday to discuss the offer.

ON TO THE NEXT CHAPTER

Reaction split fast along predictable lines, ranging from enthusiastic to mocking, per Yahoo News's roundup, with at least one outlet floating that the whole exchange might be tongue-in-cheek rather than a real offer. The White House and UFC have not issued formal comments.

White, UFC's longtime president and CEO, has been one of Trump's most visible boosters since 2016, speaking at the Republican National Convention and helping stage a UFC fight card on the White House South Lawn in July. He has repeatedly said in the past he had no interest in joining a Trump administration.

Whoever takes the podium would be the third press secretary of Trump's second term. Karoline Leavitt stepped down in August; her successor, Truth Social communications adviser Katie Zacharia, was pushed out after just five days in the role on October 16. The vacancy has persisted for three weeks, days after Democrats swept to House and Senate majorities in the midterms — a result the administration has yet to publicly address through a formal briefing.

For now, the role remains unfilled, and the fight promoter-turned-political-surrogate has until Monday to decide whether he's willing to trade the Octagon for the briefing room.
