Many Marvel fans are reacting to the surprising announcement of Marvel and Sony Pictures about its new choice of actor to play Spider-Man.
Tom Holland has been selected for Marvel’s upcoming Spiderman. Andrew Garfield was cast out due to his age.
Marvel and Sony Pictures wanted to take a new direction for the project. It’s been conceptualized that the Spider-Man version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be youthful, in stark contrast to the characters of Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, and Captain America, played by Chris Evans.
Garfield no longer fit the bill at the age of 32. Holland, meanwhile, is only 19.
But then, the Marvel and Sony Pictures justified its decision. “The Marvel process is very thorough, and that’s why their results are so outstanding. I’m confident Spider-Man will be no exception. I’ve worked with a number of up-and-coming directors who have gone on to be superstars and believe that Jon is just such an outstanding talent. For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom’s screen tests were special. All in all, we are off to a roaring start,” said Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman.
But a lot of fans are roaring in anger and deep disappointment.
“At the rate that #SpiderMan is getting younger every film, Peter Parker will be a fetus by the time Avengers Infinity Wars is released,” tweeted Josh Gad.
“#SpiderMan has got to be thee WORST @marvel creation/franchise ever. First Tobey, then Garfield, now some Holland kid who looks like a virgin,” tweeted The Book Thief.
“#SpiderMan is starting to feel like what happens if you dye your hair too much: we know it’s you, slightly changed, but fried at this point,” tweeted Farah Joan.
“Someone just told me that the new #SpiderMan looks like the little boy from the first #JurassicPark movie,” tweeted Brandon, Son of Pen.
