China has launched its second aircraft carrier in Dalian Shipyard yesterday morning in Liaoning province in northeastern China, according to a Xinhua news.
The aircraft carrier, the first one to be built in China, was launched during an event at 9.00 am (local time) at Dalian Shipyard Shipyard Industry Corporation. This is China’s second aircraft carrier, whose construction started in November 2013, while shipbuilding began in March 2015.
China’s first aircraft carrier, which was built in the Soviet Union and then modernized, was put in the service of the Chinese navy in 2012.
The event, which included the recollection of the national anthem, ritual cutting of the ribbon and the breaking of a bottle of champagne, was attended by Fan Changlink, vice president of the Central Military Committee, as the chief of the naval country and the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation.
Ma Siaogwang, a spokesman for the State Council of Taiwan Affairs in Mainland China, said today he is proud of the country’s great achievement in modernizing national security and the military. This move will help strengthen our capacity to protect national sovereignty, territorial integrity as well as our important and basic interests,” said Ma at a press conference in Beijing.
