Large amount of radioactive material has been stolen in Mexico

An alarm has been set up by the authorities of Mexico and not only after the theft of a device containing radioactive material and according to the interior ministry of the country can be used to build a “dirty bomb”.

As it has been known, it is a nuclear meter used in geotechnical engineering to measure soil density and contains radioactive material. Theft was reported in León, Guadalajara, by a technical car company. The Civil Protection Agency issued a warning that the material in the device is extremely dangerous if removed from its container.

This is not the first time that radioactive material has been stolen in Mexico. In April 2017, it was announced that radiographic equipment was stolen with Iridium-192, a radioactive element that can cause burns, a rapid deterioration of the body, and death. Similar thefts occurred in April 2015 and July 2014.
