ZZ Top drummer Frank Beard was laid to rest Tuesday afternoon at a private funeral service at Forest Park Southwest in Texas, TMZ reported. The invitation-only gathering was limited to family, close friends, surviving bandmate Billy Gibbons and members of the group's longtime crew, described in the service program as "a celebration of Frank's life" kept away from public scrutiny.

Beard died Aug. 17 at age 77 at his ranch in Richmond, Texas, following a stay in hospice care, with the Fort Bend County Medical Examiner confirming he passed with family at his side, according to Rolling Stone. Health problems had already forced the band to cancel an Aug. 5 show at the Hollywood Bowl.

Beard powered the classic ZZ Top lineup alongside Gibbons and bassist Dusty Hill for 56 years, providing the "hard shuffle" behind hits including "La Grange," "Tush" and "Sharp Dressed Man." His death leaves Gibbons as the only original member of the Texas trio still living; Hill died in 2021.
