Salma Hayek Is a Grandma! Actress, 59, Reveals Adorable Nickname for Newest Family Member
The Oscar nominee confirmed she's officially "abue" after her stepson and his wife welcomed a baby boy — and Hayek already has him answering to a Mexican nickname.

Salma Hayek has a new title to add to her résumé: grandmother. The 59-year-old actress confirmed this week that she's become a step-grandmother for the first time after her stepson, François Pinault Jr., and his wife, Lara Cosima Henckel von Donnersmarck, welcomed a baby boy.
Henckel von Donnersmarck first revealed the news on Instagram, sharing a carousel of intimate family photos and captioning the post, "my husband (the world's coolest françois) and our son (the world's cutest françois) … our first month as parents," according to TODAY.com. The reveal showed the couple had quietly been raising their newborn for weeks before going public.
Hayek followed with her own tribute, posting a video of herself cradling the baby and speaking to him in Spanish. "We are blessed to welcome the fourth living generation of Francois'," she wrote, referencing the name passed down through her husband's family. "Although I will call him Panchito. He seems to love it, and I cannot love him more," she added, per AOL.
A Mexican Nickname for a French Family Name
"Panchito" is a traditional Mexican diminutive for Francisco — a nod to Hayek's own heritage folded into her husband's dynastic naming tradition. In the video, the actress refers to herself as "abue," short for "abuela," the Spanish word for grandmother, according to TODAY.com.

Hayek has been married to French billionaire François-Henri Pinault, chairman of luxury group Kering, since 2009. She shares 18-year-old daughter Valentina with him and is stepmother to his three children from previous relationships: Mathilde, 25, François Jr., 38, and Augustin, 19. The new baby is François Jr.'s first child with Henckel von Donnersmarck.
The announcement comes amid a busier-than-usual stretch for the Frida star, who has also been making headlines this year for red carpet appearances and industry work, including recent projects tied to the Kering family's film and fashion ventures. Fans and fellow celebrities flooded both Instagram posts with congratulations, with many commenting on Hayek's visible joy in the video.
Neither Hayek's team nor the Pinault family has indicated plans for a more formal announcement beyond the social media posts. For now, "Panchito" appears to be settling into life as the newest — and smallest — member of one of France's most prominent business dynasties, with his step-grandmother already staking her claim as chief doting relative.
