Russell Brand Denies All Charges as He Takes the Stand in His Own Defense
The comedian testified for the first time in his London rape and sexual assault trial, telling jurors the allegations against him have been "devastating." A verdict could come as early as next week.
Russell Brand took the witness stand this week at Southwark Crown Court and denied every charge against him — three counts of rape, three of sexual assault and one of attempted indecent assault — telling jurors the allegations have had a "devastating" impact on his life. Under cross-examination, the comedian acknowledged a history of what he called "beyond reckless philandering" but insisted every encounter was consensual. Prosecutors have described him as "ruthless," "calculating" and a "sexual predator." The judge told jurors they are likely to begin considering a verdict as soon as next week.
