Muse frontman Matt Bellamy has filed for divorce from his wife of seven years, model and actress Elle Evans, and is asking the court to grant him sole custody of their two young children.

Bellamy filed the petition in Los Angeles on Aug. 12, citing irreconcilable differences, according to court documents. The filing centers on custody of the couple's daughter, Lovella, 6, and son, George, 2. Bellamy is asking a judge to award him sole physical and legal custody, though the filing alone doesn't determine the outcome — a judge would still need to weigh any contested custody issues before issuing a final order.

A Fight Over the Kids Is Expected

Evans has 30 days to formally respond to the petition, and multiple outlets reported she intends to challenge Bellamy's custody request and seek custody herself. Representatives for both Bellamy and Evans have not issued public statements beyond confirming the filing.

IRRECONCILABLE DIFFERENCES.

Bellamy and Evans, an American model and actress, married in 2019 after meeting years earlier; the rocker was previously engaged to actress Kate Hudson, with whom he shares a teenage son, Bingham. Bellamy and Evans welcomed their first child, Lovella, in 2020 and their son George in 2023, and the couple had largely kept their family life out of the spotlight even as Bellamy toured internationally with Muse.

The split comes as Muse continues to tour behind its most recent album, though Bellamy has not commented publicly on how the divorce might affect the band's schedule.

What's next: Evans' response is due within 30 days of the filing, after which a family court judge will set a schedule for resolving custody, support and property division.
