Kelly Clarkson and a Brooklyn novelty shop called Art of Play have spent more than a week trading public accusations after the singer claimed staff treated her like "Julia Roberts' character in Pretty Woman" during a visit to the store.

Clarkson posted on X that an employee looked at her as though she couldn't afford an item, calling the staffer "an idiot" who "just lost a huge sale." She later escalated, branding the shop's owner "rude" and a "liar." Art of Play's official account responded that Clarkson had asked to buy "Molly," a $15,000 one-of-a-kind singing and dancing mechanical bird the shop says was never for sale, and that staff instead suggested a cheaper alternative, according to TV Insider.

Owner Adam Rubin told TMZ the backlash has brought thousands of threatening calls and messages. "Kelly Clarkson has put us all in danger," he said, per Gulf News. Security footage from inside the shop surfaced this week, though it has not been confirmed the woman shown is Clarkson.
