Christy Carlson Romano revealed that a piece of birdshot still lodged behind her eye — the result of an accidental shooting at her husband's birthday celebration in February 2025 — remains close enough to critical structures that it could still cost her her sight, according to a Fox News interview published October 24 and reported by E! News.

The former Disney Channel star said another person at a clay pigeon shoot fired in the wrong direction, striking her in five places from roughly 250 feet away, including under her eye and on her forehead. Surgeons have determined the fragment near her eye is too risky to remove and continue to monitor it instead. "If it were to move, I would go blind," Romano said.

She can currently see normally, she said, but described the ordeal as life-altering, crediting her two young daughters with giving her the will to recover. "Life can change in an instant," she said, urging others to cherish loved ones.
