Alanis Morissette Comes Out as Pansexual, Jokes She's Saving the Juicy Details for Later
The ‘Jagged Little Pill’ singer revealed she's pansexual on Tig Notaro's ‘Handsome’ podcast, catching even her comedian host off guard.
Alanis Morissette has a new verse to add to her catalog of radical honesty: the "You Oughta Know" singer revealed on a podcast appearance that she identifies as pansexual.
Morissette made the disclosure while guesting on "Handsome," the comedy podcast hosted by Tig Notaro, Fortune Feimster and Mae Martin, according to TMZ. The singer kept most of the specifics to herself, joking that she'd rather save the juicier details for a future memoir or interview than hand them over on the spot — a response that reportedly left Notaro visibly surprised.
E! News, which separately confirmed the moment, reported that Morissette's comment came up casually in the middle of a wider conversation rather than as a planned announcement.
Not the first hint
Morissette has touched on questions about her sexuality before. In a 2008 appearance on "The Howard Stern Show," she discussed past experiences she described as "lesbian experimentation," and she revisited the subject in a later interview with The Advocate without ever applying a specific label to herself. Saturday's podcast comment is the most direct public statement she has made on the subject to date.
The 52-year-old Grammy winner, who is married to rapper and producer Mario "Souleye" Treadway and has three children with him, has built much of her career on unusually candid songwriting — from the breakup confessional "You Oughta Know" to a catalog of albums that have repeatedly tackled mental health, motherhood and identity head-on. Fans and fellow musicians took to social media Saturday to praise the casual, no-drama way she shared the news.
Neither Morissette nor her representatives have commented further beyond the podcast appearance.
