Bears Survive Patriots Shootout on Cairo Santos's Clutch 58-Yard Field Goal
Chicago held off a furious New England rally, with Santos's go-ahead kick and big nights from D'Andre Swift and Luther Burden III sealing a 30-24 win.
The Chicago Bears outlasted the New England Patriots 30-24 in a Thursday Night Football thriller, with kicker Cairo Santos drilling a gutsy 58-yard field goal to put the game away after New England clawed back from an early deficit.
Chicago jumped out to a 10-0 lead after the first quarter and scored in every quarter of the game, but New England answered with 14 points in the second quarter to keep the outcome in doubt deep into the fourth.
BEARS TAKE DOWN PATRIOTS IN TNF THRILLER
Patriots quarterback Drake Maye had one of the better statistical nights of any quarterback so far this season in a losing effort, finishing 24-of-31 for 321 yards and two touchdowns, including a scoring strike to Eli Raridon. It wasn't enough to overcome a balanced Chicago attack that leaned on both the run and a breakout performance through the air.
Swift and Burden Carry the Offense
Running back D'Andre Swift ground out 78 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries, controlling the clock and keeping New England's defense honest, while wide receiver Luther Burden III turned in the Bears' biggest individual night, hauling in four receptions for 130 yards and a touchdown. Santos's 58-yard field goal, well outside his typical comfort range, proved to be the decisive blow, giving Chicago a cushion the Patriots couldn't erase in the time remaining.
The win keeps Chicago's season on an upward trajectory heading into the second half of the schedule, while New England will look to regroup after a game in which its offense did enough to win most nights but its defense couldn't close the door. Both teams return to regular Sunday action this week as the league moves deeper into its trade-deadline stretch.
