Raymond Copa The death of a legend

French and world football today mourns the loss of legendary Raymond Copa. The great French ace of the past died in the morning at the age of 85 years old, His family announced ” Raymond Copa died today morning at 8:15 after several months of illness. Sunday was hospitalized today left his last breath, “the statement said. The Copa had won three European championships (1957, 1958, 1959) with Real Madrid, and in 1958 he had been declared player of the year in European football.  Raymond Copa, born on October 13, 1931, in Northern France. His real surname was Kopazefski as his family were Polish immigrants. He worked at various jobs and at one of them lost a finger of his right hand. The son of a Polish miner, he spent his childhood working at the mine area. In the late 60s he refused to renew his contract as a professional player and started a new brilliant career as an entrepreneur this time, but always in relation to sport. The Spain – France race held in Madrid in 1955, was the best match of his career, as he had said.

Quickly showed his talent and at age 18 joined in Anje and after that joined Reims in 1951 (158 entries-48 goals). In 1956 he went to Real Madrid (79 innings-24 goals) and he won three Champions Cups and four years later, he returned to Reims where ended his career (244 games-36 goals). Excellent dribbler, Copa was distinguished for his leadership skills and deservedly was one of the most important figures of French football.
