Game of Thrones director David Nutter gives a final answer to all the questions and doubts that haunted GoT fans all over the world, if Jon Snow (played by Kit Harington) was really dead. Or could he be coming back in the next season, after being resurrected by a powerful force.
The Game of Thrones book is ambiguous about Jon Snow’s tragic death, which gives hope to TV fans that their favorite hero would return.
But to this Nutter said, “I can say emphatically that Jon Snow is definitely dead. Kit Harington is just a great guy and Kit was sad to leave the crew. It’s an emotional feeling as well. But I felt it was important to set up the sequence as quickly as possible so you didn’t expect it or wait for it. I didn’t want it to linger. I wanted it to catch you by surprise.
“My concern was to take care of Jon Snow, and he’s now deader than dead.”
Kit Harington meanwhile explained his character, “It’s over for Jon Snow — at the very least, he gets to join his family and kin and leave this terrible world behind. He makes the humanitarian choice. And just like his father, the moral choice gets him killed.”
The actor added: “I had wanted it to be a beautiful death, a release. But the way it unfolded, it was a huge betrayal and a gruesome death. It was an abrupt and brutal finish with no absolutely no peace for Jon in the end.”
‘He dies sad understanding that the last person to stab him is Olly, his steward.”
Jon reared and mentored Olly, but the fact escaped his mind that Olly’s loved ones were killed by wildlings.
“There’s a real loneliness at the end for Jon Snow. His greatest fault lies in that fact, that while he’s trying to deal with the horror headed in their direction, he’s neglected to see the politics around him. He was looking too much at the big picture and not paying enough attention to the small one — and that’s what got him killed.’
Kit who has loved his character, Jon Snow, himself learned to say goodbye.
