Chris Hemsworth, who’s made his mark in the movies, Thor and The Avengers, has signed up to join Ghostbusters’ come-back movie.
Director, Paul Feig, chose the action star to join the four actresses who will play the funny ghost-busting roles: Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, and current Saturday Night Live stars, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones.
Ghostbusters was a blockbuster movie in 1984, which starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis, as parapsychologists who went into the ghost-busting business in New York City. This was followed by Ghostbusters 2, with Ernie Hudson joining the film as a ghost-busting buddy to the original group. The sequel, which also featured Sigourney Weaver, and Rick Moranis, was another smash hit.
But this time, even with the failure of the production of Ghostbusters 3, Ghostbusters is coming back to the screen not as a sequel, but as a reboot. According to Director Feig, “I love the first one so much, I don’t want to do anything to ruin the memory of that. So, it just felt like, let’s just restart it because then, we can have new dynamics. I want the technology to be even cooler. I want it to be really scary and I want it to happen in our world today that hasn’t gone through it, so it’s like, oh my God, what’s going on?”
And now, Chris will be joining the comeback of the classic movie as a receptionist with a meatier role than the first time he was invited by Feig, but which, he had then turned down. Ghostbusters script was revised to suit him and Chris finally said yes.
The new Ghostbusters will prove to be different from those action movies that Chris had done before. But, the actor is more than ready to show another side of him as an artist in more upcoming projects.
