Frank Robinson dies at age 83. First African-American baseball manager

Frank Robinson baseball legend , who was the first African-American manager and the only player who won MVP in both leagues, died today at the age of 83.

As MLB Network’s Jon Heyman revealed late last week on Twitter Robinson‘s health was in very bad condition.

Robinson was in the late stages of a long illness, and cited a ‘source with direct knowledge of the situation, as the Baltimore Sun reported on Tuesday.

Robinson, who serves as a senior adviser to major league commissioner Rob Manfred, hasn’t appeared at a baseball event since July’s All-Star Game in Washington, according to the Sun.
