English is banned in Iran

Iran has banned the teaching of English in primary schools, a high-ranking official said after the statement by the country’s top spiritual leader that language learning from an early age paves the way for a Western “cultural invasion”.

“Teaching English that is part of the official curriculum in governmental and non-governmental elementary schools is contrary to laws and regulations,” said late last night on state television, Mehdi Navid-Adham, the head of the State Council of Higher Education.
