Amazon Face Recognition Technology available to US Police Authorities

Amazon has come to an agreement with US government authorities to sell the new face recognition technology, Rekognition. According to the Orlando Police Station, this technology will help police authorities to speculate in the future.

Nonetheless, several human rights organizations oppose the use of the program, as police say they will be able to use this technology for “wrong” purposes, putting personal data at risk.

Amazon itself responded to the accusations by saying it would temporarily discontinue the use of Rekognition by government authorities that abuse the program. At the same time, he mentioned all the benefits of “Rekognition”, such as finding missing children.

It is worth noting that the US is not the only country in the world that will use face recognition to help solve police affairs as China already uses similar technology.
